kimono

The nice thing about sharing a place is that we can share belongings… And as the boxes slowly arrive we get more and more interesting things around us. This now covers our bed and is made from kimono obi (kimono belt) fabric. Original obi were double sided and these have been opened up and joined. We think this main crane pattern is probably around 150 years old, we can tell because the face of the bird positions it in history (I say WE can tell. I couldn’t, but have recently learned… ha-ha).

Atsuko and her mum carefully chose this mix of patterns and hand-made this cover together; we are so lucky to have it. Its great to have a nice, and increasingly happy London-life but even better to maintain some links to Japan and amazing to have these special things around us.
