Yinka Shinobare

The fourth plinth on Trafalgar Square that, last time I saw it, had a singing Elvis on top, now has a sculpture designed by Yinka Shinobare. This ship-in-a-bottle was built with craft workers actually crawling inside the bottle to set the sails and rigging. The ship is of course a replica of Nelson’s Victory the ship on which he ironically died. It is pretty cool, although you do want to get closer and see it from above; it doesn’t seem the perfect sculpture to be placed so high up since most of the detail is wasted on us viewing from so far below.
