A little further around the lake we rode through this small village nestled around a small port where Shijimi fishermen were bringing their catch back for their wives to sort, weigh and bag up. With fishing time strictly limited, families work hard together to make most efficient use of their time; while the women sort the first catch, the boats head straight back out for a second.

Each family has the same white, Suzuki Carry van, tiny but cheap and extremely practical, note that one of the more flashy fishermen has customised his wheels. On the lake edge at the end of the port, old shells have washed ashore.
