The real reason for leaving the house in the rain was to see a young Japanese photographer’s exhibition at the Michael Hoppen Gallery. I didn’t get any pictures from inside the gallery but have found a few images of his amazing work to show you from his website here.
He takes millions of photographs of a city and pieces them together to create wonderfully detailed diorama maps of the whole city. They sort of remind me of the hand-illustrated maps from the past and because we have been to many of the cities he has worked on (Tokyo, Kyoto, Hiroshima, New York, Istanbul, London), they brought back to us memories of our own.
These really are the visual definition of skill and patience.
