Art / Design, England

Scopes and Sons Ltd.

Alex Chinneck’s latest artwork Telling the Truth Through False Teeth is complete, on Tudor Road, Hackney. I was exhausted, and in a thoughtful, quiet mood today so decided to take a short walk in the rare London sunshine to clear my head and to find the building I had heard about earlier in the week.

Eventually I came across the old tin box factory which, at a glance, has had every window pane seemingly smashed and cracked by a well-aimed stone. On closer inspection of course these panes are too precise and have been water-jet-cut by the artist. The result is fascinating; an atmosphere of the derelict and unloved, but with such care and precision, it contradicts wonderfully. I wonder how many people even notice…
