I have only photographed my 2 favourite chess sets from the new exhibition The Art of Chess so as not to spoil the surprises for those of you that are able to go and see it for yourself. Open from today at the Saatchi Gallery, these chess sets have been commissioned at various points over the last 10 years and brought together as a collection for the first time.
The first set is by Kusama Yayoi, the Japanese artist obsessed with spots. If you haven’t done this before, Google her name then comment below to let me know what you think when you see her picture. She has recently designed the incredibly eye-catching windows for Louis Vuitton so you will be able to see her work at any LV store, wherever you are in the world right now. The second set here is by Alastair Mackie, other featured artists include: Jake and Dinos Chapman, Tracey Emin, Damien Hirst, Gavin Turk and Rachel Whiteread. Definitely worth a look.
Dude, I totally saw some of Kasuma Yayoi’s stuff in exhibition when I lived in Fukushima~ 😀
She’s so cool, I first encountered her in Naoshima of course where she has one of her beautiful yellow pumpkins on a little jetty into the sea but have also seen her in London a few times now, http://wp.me/pQo3s-B4 and http://wp.me/pQo3s-3S
Hehe, cool. I like the polka-dot room.
yeah, cra-zy!
Exquisite. I love the insect pieces!
I don’t remember if one side was winged beasties and the other side walkers… It struck me, only when I posted these, that telling the two teams apart would be near impossible once the game was underway… Really beautiful objects though.
geeeez, so unique and beautiful!
